In Service of Something Greater

Some people are born to serve; others will never understand what it means to be in service of something larger than themselves. And while many of us fret about spending hour after hour pecking at a keyboard, waiting tables or driving cargo from state to state, there is a portion of society that gets up every day to uphold the law, to save lives, to serve and protect our nation…

It is no small thing to be of service.

Law enforcement, firefighters, first responders and military put their lives on the line each day to serve and protect others, and sometimes the cost is great. Injuries and death occur in the line of duty, but when they do, we can at least make sure we’re taking care of the fallen and their family. That’s why Atlantic Logistics is proudly backing the mission of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation with a donation of $3257. The donation is a part of Atlantic Logistics’ Service 365 program, a charitable giving effort that benefits a different non-profit each month of the year.

“It breaks my heart that some fathers and husbands never come back and still others return so broken!” said Atlantic Logistics’ Owner Evie Hooper. “This is the least we can do to show our appreciation for all they do for us. It’s truly a great organization that makes people’s lives better.”

For the past 20 years, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation has honored the legacy of FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller, who gave his life to save others on 9/11, by supporting the everyday heroes who continue to risk their lives in the line of duty. The Foundation’s goal is to ensure stability and security for families facing sudden, tragic loss and they provide this support in multiple ways.

According to a company representative, Tunnel to Towers pays off the mortgages of fallen law enforcement officers and firefighters who lose their lives in the line of duty, or to 9/11 related illness, leaving young children behind (Fallen First Responder Program). The Foundation also provides mortgage-free homes to surviving military spouses with young children (Gold Star Program) and builds mortgage-free smart homes for their most catastrophically injured veterans and first responders (Smart Home Program).

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has a goal of delivering 1,000 mortgage-free homes for 2022 alone, which also includes recipients of its newly launched Veterans Homelessness program, aimed at eradicating veteran homelessness in the U.S.

And almost all the company’s fundraising dollars – 94 percent – go right back into its programs.

For those wanting to assist with the Foundation’s mission, a one-time or monthly donation of $11 is the easiest way to support heroes in need.

“It is a small way to give back to our military and the first responders who have sacrificed so much for our freedom and safety,” said Hooper.
